GUEST POLICIES:

Guest Fee: $20.00 per adult. $10.00 per child under 12

To insure the availability of all Great Lakes Athletic Club’s facilities for it’s members, all non-members, regardless of age or type of facility use (including child care), are required to pay a guest fee. Guests must register at the front desk with a valid identification, and complete and sign the guest registration form. Any guest under the age if 18 is required to have a parent or legal Guardian present to sign a waiver of liability. All guests must abide by all Great Lakes Athletic Club’s policies and procedures.

GRANDPARENT GUEST POLICY

Member grandparents may bring member grandchildren during family hours at no charge. They may not check them into child care. All policies apply.

AGE REQUIREMENTS:

Age 18 or Older:

Member: Full access to all areas.

Non-Member:

Pay Guest Fee per person.
Full Access to all areas.
To use the child care, a guest fee must also be paid for the child(ren).

Age 15 – 17:

Member: Full access to all areas without a parent present.

Non-Member:

Pay Guest Fee per person.
Must be signed in at front desk by parent or legal guardian.
Parent is NOT REQUIRED to stay in building.

Age 12 – 14:

Member: Parent/guardian must sign Youth Fitness Waiver to assign areas of the club that the child may use without parent being present.

Red Level – access to: cardio room, basketball/volleyball courts, racquetball/squash courts, track and pool.

Yellow Level – access to: cardio room, basketball/volleyball courts, racquetball/squash courts, track, pool; group fitness classes, and the second floor weight machine area.

Green Level – access to: cardio room, basketball/volleyball courts, racquetball/squash courts, track, pool; group fitness classes, and the second floor weight machine area, and the first floor free weight area.

Non-Member:

Pay Guest Fee per person.
Must be signed in at front desk by parent or legal guardian.
Parent/guardian must sign Youth Fitness Waiver to assign areas of the club that the child may use (see above for description of levels).

Age 3 Months – 11:

Member:

May use indoor pool and courts during specified family hours, parent must be at arms length or Child must wearing a swim band.
The parent or legal guardian must be present at all times.

Pay Guest Fee per person.
The parent or legal guardian must be present at all times.
May utilize outdoor and indoor pool during family hours and specified courts during family hours.
May use child center.

DELEGATION OF PARENTAL POWERS:

At the time of check-in, present the Liability Waiver for Minor Children (11-under) to the Front Desk. Waiver must be signed by parent/legal guardian and delegated member in charge before admittance to the club. The delegated member must be 18 years or older.

The following guidelines also apply:

Caregiver may use the outdoor pool and the indoor pool during family hours and specified courts during family hours.
Caregiver must stay with child at all times.
Caregiver may not check the child into child care center.

CHILDREN’S CENTER POLICIES

Only a child added as a junior member to his/her parents or legal guardian’s GLAC membership may use the Children’s Center. A birth certificate is required to add a child as a junior member.
You MUST be the parent/stepparent or legal guardian of a child in order to use the Children’s Center, regardless of the position on your membership.
The parent or legal guardian MUST remain in the facility at all times.
The Children’s Center is available to children ages 3 months to 11 years old.
Children ages 3 months to 1 year are permitted a maximum of 2 hours per day by reservation only until they are over 1 year of age and confidently walking.
Children ages 1 (and no longer required to make infant reservations) to 11 years old are permitted a maximum of 2½ hours per day. Picture identification is required at BOTH check-in and check-out times.
The same parent or guardian, who checks in the child, MUST also check out the child.
GLAC is not equipped to provide 1-on-1 care for children of any age.
For the safety of your children, if the Children’s Center reaches its maximum capacity you may be asked to wait to check your children in until the next check-out occurs.
Parents MUST abide by our Exclusion of Sick Children policy to ensure that the Children’s Center is as healthy and sanitary as possible. For your reference, this policy is attached to this form.
We reserve the right to remove or suspend children that are perceived as dangerous to themselves or others.
In regard to separation anxiety, if a crying child cannot be comforted within a ten-minute period, parents will be paged to return to the child.
GLAC provides a secure environment for our member’s children by processing a background check on each employee. Since we offer such a secure environment, we limit the time parents are allowed in the Children’s Center to a period of 10 minutes.
NO Food, candy or gum are allowed in the Children’s Center. A labeled non-glass water bottle is allowed. Any other beverage is not permitted and will be disposed of.
Time-outs and redirection will be used to address behavioral problems for children 2 years and older. Redirection will be used for children younger than 2 years old. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate child care privileges for any child who continues to exhibit unsafe or inappropriate behavior.
Socks or shoes MUST be worn in the Children’s Center at all times, bare feet are not allowed. No shoes allowed in play structure.
Parents are responsible for changing diapers and bathroom assistance.
Members or guests who do not pick up their children on time, will be assessed a late pick up FEE (see Fee Schedule).
To provide the best care possible, parents or guardians of special needs children may be asked to make a reservation.
GLAC is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
GLAC reserves the right to suspend or revoke Children’s Center privileges from any person who neglects the guidelines.

INFANT CARE POLICIES

Infants from 3 months to 1 year of age are required to have a reservation. A reservation is also required for infants over 1 year of age and not yet walking confidently (more walking than crawling).
Reservations can be made up to 48 hours in advance.
Infants MUST be checked-out one hour prior to closing. (See Children’s Center Hours)
In order to accommodate all members, reservations are to be cancelled two hours prior to reservation time.
If a reservation is not cancelled, a fee will be assessed (see Fee Schedule).
Members or guests who do not check-out their infant after two hours or one hour prior to close will be assessed a late check-out fee (see Fee Schedule).
All bottles, cups (non-glass), bags, pacifiers and comfort items such as blankets are permitted but MUST be labeled. We will NOT give oral items to infants unless labeled.
Bottles are permitted only for infants requiring reservations. The contents are limited to water, milk, breast milk, or premixed formula; the Children’s Center staff is not permitted to mix formula for bottles. Sippy cups are permitted for water only. Any other beverage is not permitted and will be disposed of.
Infants must remain seated with bottle while drinking. If an infant is unable to sit upright and hold his/her own bottle, a caregiver will hold the infant during bottle feeding.
Infants must have socks or some other kind of foot covering.
If a crying infant cannot be comforted within a ten-minute period, parents will be paged to return to the child

FEE SCHEDULE

When fees are assessed they will be as follows.
Warnings will be given for first incident.
Late check-out (after closing time or exceeding allowed time) is $1.00 per minute late per child. This is for all ages.
An infant reservation that is not cancelled is $10.00.

EXCLUSION OF SICK CHILDREN POLICY:

A child exhibiting any conditions or behaviors determined by Great Lakes Athletic Club to be an illness will be excluded from the Children’s Center. If the child becomes sick while at the Children’s Center, the child must be isolated from the other children and the child’s parent or guardian must remove the child from the Children’s Center immediately.

Parents and guardians, please understand that we strive to provide a healthy, safe and secure environment for all children; do not be offended if we ask you to remove your child due to health conditions. The following list includes, but is not limited to, conditions or behaviors that preclude a child from care at our Children’s Center:

A child who stayed home from school ill.
A child with a reportable illness or has not been cleared by a doctor.
A child exhibiting a fever of 99 degrees or higher (axially).
A child who has vomited within the last 24 hours.
A child with a continually runny nose with green or clear mucous. If your child’s nose has to be wiped more than three times, you will be asked to remove your child.
A child showing any sign of an undiagnosed rash or a rash attributable to a contagious illness or condition.
A child who may be showing respiratory distress (a bad cough).
A child having loose stool leakage or diarrhea within the last 24 hours.
A child exhibiting unexplained lethargy.
A child who has strep throat and hasn’t completed at least 24 hours of antibiotics.
A child who has impetigo and hasn’t completed at least 24 hours of antibiotics.
A child who may have had Head Lice, Ringworm, or Scabies must have doctor’s approval.
A child with chicken pox and until the child is no longer infectious and the lesions are crusted over.
A child who has been exposed to the chicken pox virus must be excluded.
A child who has had contagious Conjunctivitis (pink eye) or pus draining from the eye.
A child requiring more care than the Children’s Center staff can provide.
We reserve the right to ask for a physician’s verification of wellness.

During scheduled school hours, if your school aged child does not attend school, your child may not use our Children’s Center. This includes days due to personal wellness days or doctor appointments.

If your child exhibits any of the following symptoms, please keep them at home! If a child does not attend school due to illness, he/she will NOT be allowed in the GLAC Children’s Center. At GLAC, we strive to maintain a clean and healthy environment, and need your cooperation to keep the Children’s Center as safe and sanitary as possible.

POOL POLICIES:

For yours and others safety, admittance to the pool may be refused for the following reasons:

Infectious or communicable diseases.
The parent or legal guardian must be present at all times.
Infectious conditions, such as cold, open wounds or blisters.
Under the influence of alcohol and or drugs.
Any persons in the opinion of the aquatic supervision, whose admittance would be detrimental to the operation and safety of the pool.

Children under twelve (12) years of age will not be admitted into the pool area unless accompanied by a parent/legal guardian or someone that has been designated by the delegation of parental powers.
Babies under 3 months of age are not allowed in the pool or on the pool decks.

Proper swim attire:

Lined swim suits (no exposed metal buckles, zippers, etc.).
Thongs are prohibited.
No jean shorts in the water.
T-shirts must be clean 50/50 cotton/poly blend.
Children of toilet training age must wear aqua diapers. The locker rooms are to be used for changing diapers; no changing diapers on deck.

General Pool Rules: Follow Instruction of lifeguards on duty!

GLAC Management has the right to remove members and guests from the pool for misbehavior.
Parent / Guardians are required to be in the water and in arms reach of children under the age of 12 who can not pass the swim test. GLAC offers two levels of swim tests: Orange Swim Band (play pool only): Child must be able to swim/tread the width of the pool and back to pass this level. Purple Swim Band (lap and play pool): Child must be able to swim/tread the length of a lap lane and back to pass this level.

Children under the age 12 can not be left in pool area unsupervised.
Everyone is required to take a shower before entering the pool.
No running allowed on deck areas and/or in locker rooms.
Street shoes are not allowed on deck or in pools.
Only use of lifeguard approved lifesaving devices allowed. No water wings permitted.
Weak swimmers are recommended to stay in shallow water only.
Lap swimming only in lap lane.
Hanging, standing or sitting on lane lines or dividing ropes is not allowed.
Obey no diving signs. Feet first entry in 5 feet or less water depth.
No spitting in, spouting of pool water.
Rough housing is not allowed (dunking, chicken fighting, back riding, splashing, etc).
Food items are only allowed in the designated food areas (fenced-in picnic tables – outdoor pool). Food will be available for purchase through Cafe Vitality.
Glass, breakable, and/or hazardous objects are not permitted.
Strollers and car seats are not permitted on pool deck. Designated stroller parking area is available when using the outdoor pool.
Smoking is not allowed on property.
Pet or animals, except for trained guide dog accompanying a person who has a disability, is not permitted in the swimming pool enclosure. A guide dog is not permitted in the pool.

OUTDOOR POOL POLICIES

Safety/spot checks will be done every 50 minutes. At this time all members must exit the pool and remain out of the water until the “all clear” is given by the lifeguards (approximately 10 minutes).
GLAC reserves the right to shut down the pool when the outdoor temperature is below 70 degrees or when there are poor weather conditions. If the outside temperature is under 70 prior to opening in the morning, the outdoor pool will remain closed.
Thunder in the area: Members will be informed of the potential weather situation and GLAC staff will be on the lookout for any lightening strikes.
Lightening Strikes Sighted: Outdoor pool deck will be cleared immediately. Outdoor pool will remain closed for 20 minutes after the last strike is sighted. The indoor pool will remain open for Junior Members if weather occurs during designated family hours. If weather occurs during the non-family hours, the indoor pool will be opened only if available – i.e., no Learn to Swim, Group Fitness classes or swim team practices being held.
Tornado Watch: If the National Weather Service issues a Tornado Watch, GLAC staff will inform all members and will continue to monitor the situation.
Tornado Warning: In the event that the National Weather Service elevates the watch to a Tornado Warning, the pool deck will be cleared immediately and the GLAC staff will instruct members where to go for safety.

WATERSLIDE POLICIES

Must be 48″ tall OR be at least 42″ tall AND have passed and orange or purple swim test
Must pass the swim test if under 12 years old.
Follow instructions of the dispatch guard. Riders must wait for start signal.
Swimwear with exposed metal zippers, buckles, etc. is not permitted on slide.
Eyeglasses, sunglasses or goggles may not be on face while go down the slide.
One person at a time on slide.
You may only ride down the slide feet first and on your back.
Keep arms and hands inside the flume of the slide at all times.
Swimming not permitted in the slide zone.
Persons may not catch slider in slide zone.
After riding down the slide you must immediately exit the pool using the ladder.

ROCK WALL POLICIES:

Climbers under the age of 12 must have a parent present at all times.
Climbers between the ages of 12 and 18 must have a liability form that is signed by his or her parent or legal guardian and filed with GLAC staff prior to climbing.
Climbers over the age of 18 must have a liability form signed and on file with GLAC staff prior to climbing.

REGISTRATION POLICIES:

Once registration is closed, participants may not switch to another class day and/or time.
Additional policies may be found in specific program guidelines.
INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICIES: Great Lakes Athletic Club follows Lake Orion Community Schools inclement weather policy. Therefore, if there is no school and/or if Lake Orion Community Schools determines that after school and evening programs are canceled, GLAC’s children’s classes and programs will be canceled as well. EXCEPTION: Martial Arts – See Master Floyd Soo for cancellation policies.

GLAC reserves the right to cancel programs with low enrollment. Refunds will be issued to the participant in the manner in which they paid for the canceled class.
Refunds will not be issued for cancellations initiated by the participants in any program.
Refunds, credits or make-up classes will not be given for classes missed by the participant. Otherwise, makeup classes will be scheduled at the discretion of the instructor or Program Director.
Registration is accepted during scheduled registration dates only. A $10 late fee will be applied to all Learn to Swim registrations received after a session registration closes.
Registration is accepted on a space-available basis in all programs.

HOW TO REGISTER

To ensure proper enrollment, completely fill out the appropriate registration form and confirm that all information provided is correct.
A registration form needs to be completed for each class and/or participant enrolling for any program.
Payment in full must be provided at time of registration.
A Parent or Legal Guardian must register minors.

In Person – We will be accepting registration during the registration dates in the Member Activities office between the hours of :

9:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Monday through Wednesday
9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Thursday and Friday
9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Saturday

Online – MEMBERS ONLY may charge class fees to their house account.
